I skipped a couple of Tinker mails, sorry, I was going through a couple of confusing weeks of me thinking over and over about why I am doing what I am doing.
I had to quit my job 7 months ago, been working on so many different things ever since I graduate, even while studying, and through out these years I reached a point where I was unclear about what I liked to do, in Egypt. I can do so many things and I always got interested in one, learnt all about it, then tossed it aside to learn something else.
Last two weeks I wondered if I should put my Tinkering Activities aside, snap out of it and get a real job where a. I’d get a stable income b. possibly do something functional/practical with my talents.
As much as I enjoy working on my Tinker videos (which may take up to 4 days to make) the product designer in me hates that I am not making something of practical function, in other words, that I might be doing art. Sorry, I know a lot of my follower artists will not like this, but I am a very practical person and I never really got art! Let alone consider myself as one. And I started wondering if I continue tinkering because I got attention from others who are interested in what I do, or because I really wanted to do it. When I started sharing on Instagram I did it because I really wanted to figure what ‘I’ liked, what ‘I’ believed and not what other people, or family, liked to see me do or think, I wanted to disregard what was available or convenient to do in Egypt and create something for me that was aligned with every belief and way of life that I wanted.
Maybe there is something about this that I would learn from this Instagram experience, I don’t know. Till then, my Tinkering activities are cheaper than therapy so I will postpone facing the real world for now.
I’d like to thank all of you who showed their support in any way during my confusing couple of months! It helped me remain somehow sane and got me to discover a lot about myself, my talents and possibly direct me to a future I want. Thank you so much! I really appreciate all your comments, likes and messages.
